Wir haben Neuigkeiten!

Zuerst müssen wir aber um Verzeihung bitten! Es ist viel los und alles parallel – da vergisst man manchmal, zu kommunizieren. Gut, dass ihr uns hier aufrüttelt – wir schauen jetzt auf und berichten:

Wir hatten euch ja im letzten Update erzählt, dass es eine Änderung im Seil und damit für die anschließenden Teile gab. Für diese Änderung ist eine hervorragende Lösung auf den Weg gebracht, braucht aber Zeit, um fertiggestellt zu werden.

Sicher fragen sich viele von euch, was denn da so lange dauern kann.
Daher ein Beispiel: 

Unsere Stahlösen durchlaufen fünf Fertigungsschritte, bevor Sie in ihrer endgültigen Qualität bei uns eintreffen und in weiteren Arbeitsgängen mit dem Seil verbunden werden. Dies passiert nicht in einer großen chinesischen Fabrik, sondern in vier verschiedenen mittelständigen (und mitteldeutschen;-) Betrieben.

Die haben (glücklicherweise) volle Auftragsbücher sowie geregelte Arbeits- und Urlaubszeiten. Wir können also Tag und Nacht ackern – manche Dinge lassen sich einfach nicht beschleunigen.

Sobald an einem Teil (z.B. an der Öse) eine Änderung auftritt, müssen alle daran anschließenden Teile erneut geprüft und ggf. angepasst werden. Wenn jeder Zulieferer auch nur eine Woche braucht (was sehr wenig ist), dann ist schon eine Menge Zeit vergangen. So gehen schnell mal ein paar Monate ins Land.

Was euch wie ein Ewigkeit erscheint, fühlt sich bei uns an wie Vollgas.

Nun wollen wir nicht philosophisch werden, sondern euch ein paar Fakten an die Hand geben.

Bevor wir unsere technischen Pläne und Entwürfe zehntausendfach in Serie umsetzen, werden zunächst kleine Mengen gefertigt und getestet, dann eine Nullserie und dann die erste große Serienmenge.

Unser Stand aktuell: Wir haben die Entwicklungsarbeiten abgeschlossen und die Nullserie wird gerade produziert.

Für diejenigen, die keine Ingenieure sind: Die Nullserie ist die Generalprobe der Serienproduktion.

Circa 1.000 Meter Seil und Metallteile werden in den Originalmaterialien auf den echten Produktionsmaschinen hergestellt, bevor es in die große Serie geht. Hier können dann Maschineneinstellungen, Geschwindigkeiten, Lauflängen, Bauteile und Abläufe ein letztes mal nachjustiert werden.

Die Metallteile haben wir schon bekommen und getestet. Mit erfreulichem Ergebnis. Dem Bolzenschneider und der Säge widerstehen Ösen und Verschlüsse sehr gut.

Einen Verlierer gab es: das Padlock / Vorhängeschloss. Daher haben wir uns entschieden, dieses Produkt aus dem Programm zu nehmen und einen Ersatz anzubieten. Alle, die von dieser Änderung betroffen sind, haben dazu eine separate Mail erhalten.

Das Seil läuft derzeit von der Maschine. Ein irrer und ganz entscheidender Schritt nach all der Entwicklungszeit. Das Seil wird dann auf riesigen Spulen zu uns geliefert und in unseren neuen Werkräumen mit den Metallteilen zusammengefügt.

Es geht also eindeutig voran – aber nicht ohne Umwege. 

Einen konkreten Termin werden wir daher noch immer nicht bekannt geben, dafür gibt es zu viele Faktoren die wir nicht hundertprozentig voraussehen können. Wir haben eine Übersicht mit Meilensteinen angehängt, sodass ihr nachvollziehen könnt, was so vor sich geht.

Was wir sagen können – die Blätter werden von den Bäumen fallen, während bei tex—lock die neuen Werkräume eingerichtet werden. 

Wir suchen derzeit Mitarbeiter/innen für die Produktion in Leipzig: falls ihr jemanden kennt....

Also – im Prinzip läuft also alles sehr gut – nur die Zeit läuft manchmal schneller, als es uns und euch lieb ist ;-). Wir bauen auf Euer Verständnis, dass wir ein Start-up sind und das eben auch alles zum allerersten Mal tun… Vielen Dank für eure Aufmerksamkeit!

We have news for you!

But first, a short apology! There’s a lot going on in the tex—lock world and sometimes we simply cannot communicate as often as we’d like to.

In the last update we told you that there was a change concerning the rope and related parts. For this change, an excellent solution has been found, but it is taking some time to reach completion.

Many of you may wonder what can be causing such delays, so we’d like to share an example:

Our steel eyelets pass through five manufacturing steps before they arrive at their final stage and get connected to the rope in further steps. This does not happen in a large asian factory, but in 4 different medium-sized companies, all located right here in Germany

Our production partners have full order books, as well as regular working and vacation times, so despite our best efforts - some things simply can not be accelerated.

As soon as a change occurs in one of our parts (for example, the eyelet), all surrounding parts must be re-checked and possibly adjusted as well. If every supplier needs just one week for his task (which is very little), a lot of time has already elapsed.

That’s how minutes turn into days, and sometimes weeks into months.

Before we convert our technical plans and designs ten thousand times into a series, small quantities are initially produced and tested, then a pilot run, and then the first large series quantity.

Our current status: We have completed the development work and the pilot series is currently being produced.

For those who are not engineers: The pilot run is the rehearsal of serial production. About 1000 meters of rope and metal parts are produced with the original materials on the genuine production machines before it goes into the large series. Here machine settings, speeds, run lengths, components, and sequences can be re-adjusted for the last time.

The metal parts we have already tested delivered gratifying results. The loops and locks were both extremely resistant to bolt cutters and saws.

There was one loser: the padlock. We decided to take this product off the program and offer a replacement. All those affected by this change have received a separate e-mail.

The rope is currently running on the machines. It's a crazy and very decisive step after all the development time. The rope is then delivered on huge coils and assembled in our new workrooms with the metal parts.

We are still not announcing a specific date, there are too many factors that we can not predict with absolute certainty. We have an overview with milestones attached, so you can understand what is going on and have full transparency in the process.

So - in the end, everything is running very well - only the time runs sometimes faster than we like it to ;-). We trust in your understanding that we are a start-up and we are doing everything for the first time ...

Liebe Unterstützer, die Ihr das tex—lock schon vorbestellt habt! 

Wir möchten euch einen kurzen Einblick geben, wie die Produktion voranschreitet. Auf den letzten Metern in Richtung der Serienreife haben wir eine notwendige produktionstechnische Änderung am Seil vorgenommen, wodurch sich auch Änderungen beim Anfügen der Ösen an das Seil ergeben haben. Keine Sorge - funktional und optisch wird es hierbei keine Einschränkungen geben. Es betrifft vielmehr eine Änderung im Herstellungsprozess, die uns derzeit eine Menge Zeit und Nerven kostet. 

In unserem Arbeitseifer haben wir auch glatt übersehen, dass im Sommer viele Zulieferer Betriebsferien machen. Das sei ihnen natürlich gegönnt, aber für uns und euch heißt das: geduldig sein. 

Weiterhin haben wir uns entschieden, das Fügen der Komponenten Seil und Öse nicht in Auftrag zu geben, sondern im eigenen Hause auszuführen. Das enorme Feedback von Interessenten und potenziellen Wettbewerbern hat uns zu dieser Entscheidung geführt. So geben wir weniger Know-how nach draußen und können langfristig schneller und individueller weitere Produkte und Varianten entwickeln. Das bedeutet im Gegenzug aber auch, dass Maschinen angeschafft, Räume hergerichtet und Personal angelernt werden müssen. 

Daraus ergibt sich ein neuer Zeitplan, der eine Auslieferung im August leider nicht mehr möglich macht. Das tut uns sehr leid, weil wir wissen, wie ihr euch auf die erste Ausfahrt mit dem tex—lock freut! Viele von Euch werden nun die Augen verdrehen und ächzen: “Wieder so ein Kickstarter Projekt, das ewig zu spät kommt!” Ja, wir haben uns - wie viele andere Start-ups in unserer Situation - zeitlich verschätzt. Und ja: die vorgenommene Änderung bringt das Produkt voran und sorgt für hohe Qualität - und dies ist unser vorrangiger Anspruch an uns und an das tex–lock. 

Also schimpft bitte nur kurz und lehnt euch dann zurück. Denn Ihr könnt euch auf uns verlassen, wir arbeiten hart und kommen gut voran. Wir hoffen sehr auf euer Verständnis und eure Geduld, uns auf diesem spannenden Weg zur Seite zu stehen. 

Wie wir vorankommen, sollt Ihr natürlich auch sehen: Wie beim letzten mal angekündigt, haben wir die neuen, gehärteten Ösen bekommen und gleich getestet. Das Ergebnis:  

Wir haben neue Werkzeuge bestellt, weil unser Bolzenschneider sich schon die Zähne ausgebissen hat. Jetzt muss noch schwereres Gerät her. Wir bereiten einen kleinen Film vor, der zeigt, wie viel die Ösen aushalten. Bleibt gespannt! 

 Außerdem zeigen wir euch, wie die Farbe Neonlachs am Fahrrad leuchtet!

We’d like to give you a short overview on how production of the tex–lock is coming along. At the last moment, shortly before serial production should have started, we found out that it was neccessary to change the production workflow of the tex—lock rope. This means that the process of assembling the eyelet has to be adapted as well.  But no worries about that – you will find no restrictions concerning functionality or appearance! It is more a change of the manufacturing process and unfortunately it costs us a lot of time and nerve. 

Focusing extremly on our work, we have totally overseen that in summer a lot of our designated component suppliers are gone for company holidays. Of course, we grant them recreational time but that means being more patient for us and you. 

Furthermore, we have decided not to outsource the assembling of the components, rope, and eyelet, but to do it ourselves in house. The enormous feedback of interested persons and competitors lead us to this result. In this way less of our internal know-how will end up outside, and seeing it from a long term view we are more able to develop our products and variations individually and faster. On the other hand, it is now our challenge to acquire machines, working space, and people. 

Taking all factors into account, we have fixed a new time-table which means that delivery in August is no longer possible. We are really sorry about that issue as we know that you all are looking forward to your very first tour with the tex–lock! Some of you may roll your eyes and groan about the typical outcomes and challenges of a Kickstarter Project: late as only late can be. And undoubtedly we have to admit that we fell behind in time like so many other startups in the same situation. But if you try see it in a positive light, these changes will improve our product and will provide higher quality – and this is our absolute priority to ourselves, our supporters, and the tex–lock. 

So please relax! We want to point out that you can still count on us – we work hard and we are on a very good path.

As mentioned the last time we have received the new hardened eyelets and tested them directly. The result:

We had to order new tools because the old bolt cutter gave up, and now it’s time for heavy machines. We are preparing a new short video showing how much the eyelets can resist, and it should be ready by the end of July. Stay tuned!

Liebe Unterstützer von tex–lock,

heute kommt endlich ein neues Update von uns - es war wirklich viel los bei uns in den letzten Wochen, wir berichten hier mal eins nach dem anderen.

Unser Team wächst: seit Mai unterstützt uns Monika im Backoffice, außerdem haben wir zwei fleißige Studenten die uns bei den Produktionsvorbereitungen und der Unternehmensorganisation unterstützen. Katja hat unser Team leider verlassen und wendet sich neuen Herausforderungen zu. Wir suchen also noch eine Teamverstärkung im Bereich Vertrieb / New Business Development. Alles ist in Bewegung!

Willkommen in unserem neuen Büro! Seit 48 h sitzen wir in unserem neuen Domizil in der Alten Baumwollspinnerei in Leipzig. Ein Ort der Kreativität mit viel Licht, viel Platz und sehr netten Nachbarn ;-)

Vorbereitung Seilproduktion: Suse und Alexandra sind stetig unterwegs, um dem tex—lock-Seil den letzten technischen Schliff zu geben. Um die neusten Garnentwicklungen im Test zu sehen, waren wir kürzlich bei einem international tätigen Faserhersteller zu Besuch. Dort haben wir auch die Qualität und Ausführung unserer tex—lock Fasern besprochen. Danach wurden die ersten Meter Seil unter finalen Produktionsbedingungen hergestellt und sollen in den kommenden Wochen nochmals auf Herz und Nieren getestet werden. Im nächsten Schritt werden wir die Seiloberfläche auch resistent gegen Reibung, sowie Schmutzabweisend machen (die Oberfläche soll ja lange schön bleiben!). Wir halten Euch auf dem Laufenden!

Außerdem finalisieren wir gerade die Ösen, um sie produktionstechnisch optimal umzusetzen. Da die erste Serie nun doch wesentlich größer ausfällt als vor der Kickstarter-Kampagne erwartet, haben wir hier ganz neue Möglichkeiten der Formgebung und Produktionsverfahren. In Kürze werden wir dazu Muster erhalten, die wir euch natürlich vorstellen.

Ausgezeichnet! Wir erhielten auf der weltgrößten Messe für technische Textilien, der Techtextil 2017 in Frankfurt / Main den Innovation Award der Kategorie „New Product“. Das freut uns natürlich! Today we proudly share some new updates – the last few weeks for us have been extremely busy, so we wanted to report our newest updates here one by one:

Our team is growing: Since May, Monika has supported us with administrative tasks, and we have als had two hard-working students support us with production preparations and company organization. Katja has unfortunately left our team and is taking on new challenges. Therefore, we are looking for team reinforcement in sales and new business development. Everything is in motion!

Welcome to our new office! A mere 48 hours ago, we moved into our new working space in the Baumwollspinnerei in Leipzig. A place of creativity with lots of light, space, and very nice neighbors ;-)

"How does your tex-lock look?" 94% of all supporters have already told us how their tex-lock should look. If you belong to the remaining 6%, please let us know how we can help you with the survey (which was sent via Backerkit). Please write to [email protected] and we will structure your information and determine the exact material and production quantities to go into production! 

Preparation rope production: Suse and Alexandra are constantly on the road to give the tex–lock rope the last technical touch. In order to see the latest yarn developments in the test, we recently visited an international fiber producing company. There we have also discussed the quality and design of the tex–lock fibers. After this, the first meters of rope were produced under final production conditions and are to be tested again and again in the coming weeks. In the next step, we will make the rope surface resistant to friction, as well as dirt repellent (the surface should remain beautiful for a long time!). We will keep you up to date!

Additionally, we are finalizing the eyelets in order to optimize the production process. Since the first series is considerably larger than expected before the kickstarter campaign, we have completely new possibilities with the shaping and production procedures. In the near future, we will receive samples which will be introduced to you.

Excellent! We received the Innovation Award in the "New Product" category at the world's largest trade fair for technical textiles, the Techtextil 2017 in Frankfurt / Main (Germany). We are absolutely delighted with this result! Furthermore, there were two TV reports with a product test from the specialists. Entschuldigt bitte unser langes Schweigen. Wir haben echt viel um die Ohren... Hier nun endlich einige Infos zum weiteren Ablauf :

Viele von euch haben uns ein Feedback zu den Produkten gegeben und z.B. vorgeschlagen, die unterschiedlich großen Ösen auf alle tex—lock Längen zu übertragen.

Dank der beachtlichen Summe die zusammengekommen ist, können wir diese Wahlmöglichkeiten nun anbieten. Ihr könnt euer tex—lock also ganz individuell zusammenstellen.

Ihr werdet dazu in der kommenden Woche eine Mail von Backerkit erhalten - dies ist ein Anbieter, der uns bei der Auswertung der Umfrage und beim Fulfillment unterstützt.

Die Länge habt ihr ja bereits gewählt, nun bestimmt ihr per BackerKit-Umfragetool noch: 

• die Farbe (schwarz, grau/schwarz, grau/gold, neon lachs) 
• die Ösenform (gleich große Ösen oder große+kleine Öse zum Durchstecken) 
• das Schloss (Vorhängeschloss, mini Bügelschloss, kein Schloss)

Wir stürzen uns derweil in die Vorbereitung der Serienproduktion und planen die einzelnen Produktionsschritte. Durch den wunderbaren Erfolg der Kickstarter Kampagne stehen wir vor einer großen Herausforderung. Denn eine größere Stückzahl als ursprünglich geplant zu produzieren, heißt auch andere Fertigungsverfahren einzubeziehen. Diese müssen natürlich sorgfältig getestet, kalkuliert und evaluiert werden. Über die Fortschritte werden wir euch natürlich auf dem Laufenden halten.

Many of you have given us feedback on the products and, for example, proposed to transfer the differently sized eyelets to all tex-lock lengths.

Thanks to the considerable amount that has come together, we can now offer these options. So you can choose your tex-lock varients individually.

You will receive an email from Backerkit in the coming week - this is a provider who supports us in the evaluation of the survey and the fulfillment.

You have already chosen the length. Now you determine by backerkit survey tool: 

• The color (black, gray / black, gray / gold, neon salmon) 
•  The eye shape (equal eyelets or large+small eyelet to loop through) 
• The lock (Padlock, mini lock, no lock)

You will be guided in German / English through the options. And you have the possibility to order an additional tex-lock, which in this combination might not have been available on kickstarter.

Please ensure that your address and shipping data are complete and up-to-date. Alright - that was your part.

We bury ourselves in the preparation of serial production and planning every single production step. We are faced with a great challenge by the wonderful success of the Kickstarter campaign. Producing a larger quantity than originally planned, also means incorporating other manufacturing processes. These have to be carefully tested, calculated and evaluated. We will of course keep you posted on the progress.

Was für eine Kampagne und was für ein Start für das tex—lock! 

2.245 Unterstützerinnen und Unterstützer haben über 279.000 € in unserer allerersten Crowdfunding Kampagne überhaupt beigetragen.

Vielen Dank dass Ihr uns geholfen habt, das tex—lock zu einem solchen Erfolg zu führen. Vielen Dank auch für eure Ideen und euer Interesse, dass ihr uns entgegen gebracht habt.
